About Quick Reads

Quick Reads was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair on World Book Day 2006 to provide fast-paced, bite-sized books by bestselling writers for emergent readers, anyone who had lost the reading habit or simply wanted a short, fast read.

It was a remarkable collaboration between authors, publishers, book retailers, libraries, the education sector, and other partners and supporters.

About RAW

(see website)

RAW

The Partnership is a BBC RaW Centre and will champion the campaign in our community to help you enjoy reading and writing.
RaW aims to inspire adults to read more and write better.
The campaign is large scale, has a long term adult literacy focus, and is the largest the BBC has ever seen.

Its entertainment led approach will span 3 years – online, broadcast, publishing and a raft of on the ground activities.

Through the campaign’s informal activities, it offers an accessible entry point for many adults to develop their confidence and interest in their literacy ability and perhaps their first steps into informal learning.

There are three phases starting from October 2005 to 2008; with a focus on awareness and self diagnosis, focus on passions and interests and a focus on family learning

About World Book Day

(see website)

World Book Day Logo

World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. George’s Day – a tradition started over 80 years ago.

World Book Day 2007 in the UK and Ireland will take place on Thursday 1st March*. It is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.
